Reconcile 3 — Presenting the first-year figures to the company

Ledgerline's customers - small trades firms and their bookkeepers - were matching bank lines to invoices by hand, and the support inbox filled up every Friday. There was no product; there was a spreadsheet macro one customer had written and shared on a forum.

I started with that macro and the twelve customers who used it. Reconcile matched bank lines to invoices automatically, showed its confidence, and left the unsure ones for a human in a queue that took a minute instead of an afternoon. We shipped it to the twelve first, then to everyone on the two higher plans.

Summed across customers, the first year gave back about six thousand bookkeeper hours, Friday support volume fell by a third, and Reconcile became the reason the middle plan existed. It was my first zero-to-one product and the decision log for it is the longest one I have.
